About the event
Hear the world premiere of a major new project from pianist and composer Paul Harrison. He has put together a brand new ensemble and created a live jazz score for the 1915 silent film Alice in Wonderland - notable for its costumes, faithfulness to the original story. Recently a new high quality print of this classic silent film has been released, bringing the startling costumes and sets to life. The music has infectious melody, beguiling harmony and rambunctious rhythm, and connects the unexpected twists and turns of Alice’s adventure with the essence of jazz itself. You won’t have heard anything quite like this before. Also featuring an all-star band - vocalist Rachel Lightbody, saxophonist Norman Willmore, bassist Brodie Jarvie and drummer Tom Bancroft, in an opening prelude to the evening's main event, they will present unique new renderings of jazz songs and instrumentals from cinema over the last century. The creation of the music for Alice In Wonderland has been supported by Creative Scotland.
