The Canny Band, a rare fusion of piano, diatonic button accordion and bodhran, has stormed the Glasgow trad scene and gained them numerous high profile BBC TV Radio appearances and the Up and Coming Award at the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Award awards in Dec 2021.
Prior to the pandemic the band already had several awards under their belts including a Trip to Birmingham festival Molloy Award, a Celtic Connections Danny Kyle Award and Hands up for Trads Battle of the Folk Bands.
Fellow stalwarts of Glasgow’s fertile session scene, Sam Mabbett, Michael Biggins (BBC Radio Scotland's Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2021) and Callum Convoy cook up an expert, effervescent mix of trad-based material with borrowings from classical, jazz and beyond, focussing more recently on self-penned material.
The Canny Band's much anticipated debut record released on April 18th and this album launch show will be the trio's first appearance in Aberdeen.
