British-born, Canadian-raised singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Michelle Willis has been lauded for her haunting and pristine vocals and poetic songwriting skills. Steeped in the sounds of the 60s and 70s, but fresh with contemporary vibes, she has amassed an impressive resume touring and recording with a multitude of top musicians. For her performance at Aberdeen Jazz Festival, Michelle will be joined by two of the UK’s most in-demand sidemen - Sebastian Rochford on drums and Mario Caribé on bass, to present a selection of original jazz/contemporary folk and new arrangements of well-loved covers.
Michelle performs regularly as a solo artist and has performed with David Crosby and Becca Stevens. She has also worked with Iggy & The Stooges, Laura Mvula, Snarky Puppy, The Parachute Club, and the Zac Brown Band.
"…entirely current while harking back to the very best singer-songwriter traditions.” (Songwriting Magazine)
With a cross-cultural upbringing, Tan Nicol’s vocals are a melting pot of influences from Irish and South American folk to jazz and global music, all underpinned by her classical training. Her music is an emotive journey through different cultures, styles and techniques, delivered through consistently powerful performances. For this show she will be joined by the wonderful Neil Birse on keys.
