Martin Kershaw’s thrilling large-scale piece for octet takes us through themes of war, love, death, truth, and beauty with inspiration from poetic greats such as Virgil, Milton, Philip Larkin, and Dylan Thomas. A celebration of textures and styles journeying from close-knit ensemble orchestrations to startling solo features.
Martin Kershaw (saxes, clarinet, bass clarinet), Sean Gibbs (trumpet), Adam Jackson (alto sax), Liam Shortall (trombone), Graeme Stephen (guitar), Paul Harrison (piano), Calum Gourlay (bass), Alyn Cosker (drums).
Regularly tipped as one to watch. The evening begins with an intimate duo set from ‘rising star’ Rachel Duns (saxophone) and Kyle Hood (guitar). Rachel sings easily through her instrument of choice, the tenor saxophone, but understated vocals and flute sketches also feature.
