Originally from Perth and now based in London, Helena Kay is a greatly in-demand tenor saxophonist and composer. She released her debut album Moon Palace with her band Helena Kay’s KIM trio in 2018 after winning the Peter Whittingham Jazz Award the same year. Kay draws influence from different places which are important to her: Scotland, London, and New York, each of which have been her home during her career so far. Helena Kay's KIM Trio + Peter Johnstone features Kay on tenor saxophone and compositions, Calum Gourlay on double bass, Peter Johnstone on piano and David Ingamells on drums and play a mixture of Helena’s originals and tunes from the jazz canon, inspired by greats such as Sonny Rollins and Antonio Carlos Jobim as well more contemporary names like Melissa Aldana and Larry Goldings.
