About the event

BRBQ unites three distinctive voices in Scottish jazz, James Brady (trumpet/flugelhorn), Mario Caribé (bass) and Stu Brown (drums/percussion), with one of the UK’s leading interpreters of Bossa Nova and Brazilian jazz, Ed Rice (piano). Brazilian-born Caribé has long been a leading light in the Scottish jazz and needs no introduction to the Blue Lamp audience while prolific performer Stu Brown spent 3 weeks on a British Council-funded residency in Brazil followed by a UK tour with cultural exchange project Orquestra Scotland Brasil. Although new to Scotland, Brady has already made an impact on the Scottish jazz scene and has been studying and playing the music of Brazil for over 10 years. Together, they bring a freshness and authenticity to playing the music of Antonio Carlos Jobim, Hermeto Pascoal, João Bosco and other giants of Brazilian jazz, combining flowing melody, rhythmic grace and open, breathing improvisation.
