A new group gathered by keyboardist and composer Paul Harrison to play music which is melodic but adventurous, hard grooving, beguiling and exploratory - all at once. Powerful soloing from the two-saxophone front line, propulsive grooves with an urban undercurrent, atmosphere building and collective empathy. Keyboardist Paul Harrison plays piano, Wurlitzer piano and at times weaves subtle electronics through the music. The band brings together leading talents from Scotland’s scene: saxophonists Adam Jackson and Michael Butcher, bassist Brodie Jarvie and drummer Doug Hough.
Press quotes: “Act Shy may be a fairly new band but is comprised of some seriously accomplished composer-musicians.” Scottish Jazz Space “An excellent lineup playing wonderful material” Patrick Hadfield, London Jazz News Expect joyful and highly original music from musicians who may have an unassuming exterior … but who have a lot to say. As Stephen Hawking said “Quiet people have the loudest minds”
