A mutual love of traditional music and jazz underpins the work of this unique Scottish duo, both finalists in the BBC Young Jazz Musician of The Year. Through years of playing together, Matt Carmichael (saxophone) and Fergus McCreadie (piano) have developed an intimate knowledge of one another’s playing and compositional styles which they harness to produce stunning and delightfully spontaneous performances.
Fergus McCreadie is one of Scotland's most acclaimed young musicians. His trademark of stirring folkloric melodies and sweeping crescendos interleave with passages of scintillating subdivisions. Recent album Forest Floor was shortlisted for the 2022 Mercury Prize and awarded Scottish Album of the Year in the same year.
A distinctive new voice in a crowded scene’ (BBC Music Magazine), saxophonist Matt Carmichael is a product of Glasgow’s thriving jazz scene. Increasingly lauded for his compositions, not least on his debut album ‘Where Will The River Flow’ (2021), Matt has a special way of spinning new hues from strands of melodic jazz and Scottish folk.
‘A giddying fusion of Scottish culture and jazz history’ – The Times (referencing Fergus McCreadie)
‘Strikingly organic synthesis of lyrical Jazz and Scottish Folk’ The Scotsman (referencing Matt Carmichael)
